I’ve waited so long for a flight to Durban! & to finally write up this post… but I’ve finally sat down to do so, plus I thought I should since I go on my next trip tomorrow. So, what happened in Durban.
We arrived at the hotel at 7 pm, so as normal we planned to meet up and go for dinner. One of the girls had been before and knew of a great restaurant about a 10-minute walk away in one of the ‘Holiday Inn Hotel’.
So we are in South Africa so I had to order a steak. I got mine with mash potatoes and mushroom sauce. Don’t get me wrong the picture doesn’t do it any justice, it was HUGE but when I saw deep fried Oreos with ice cream on the desert menu I had to give them a try! And yes, that is a pint of beer in the picture – that’s my English side coming out of me…
With knowing I had to be up at 4 am to get picked up for shark diving we wrapped up dinner pretty fast and headed back to the hotel. If you want to see the amazing 2-floor room check out the vlog at the bottom of the post. After a nap which felt like 20 minutes my alarm went off. The drive to the spot was 1 hour away, when we arrived we was given wetsuits and fully briefed on how to handle yourself in the water and what to do if you panic.
I’m not going to lie at first I was terrified to get in the cage, but it was something that has been on my bucket list for years! I was the 2nd group to go, I think this helped me stay calm. We were in the cage for around 25 minutes but it seemed like forever, after the first shock of the shark coming up to the cage it was calming just watching them in their home.
Even now I’m in shock that I still got in the cage! Simply amazing and would recommend anyone going to Durban or South Africa to get in the cage and take the dip.
